Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 28

Hello all.

Wishing you all a very Merry Xmas on behalf of myself and Mad About Scrappin.

Back to share with you the last Layout of the Week for 2013. Still hard to believe that we have been doing this for 27 weeks now and that 2013 is almost over.

Anyway.. to see 2013 out with a bang I have created a canvas this time for a change as a gift to my two youngest daughters using the last of the Pink Paislee - Cottage Farms paper range.

So here's the full canvas. It is 16"x 20" in size.
I wont go on too much about this and drag this post out during this busy time of the year.
However I must say I had a lot of fun playing around with some napkins, glimmer mist, paint, ink and lots of flowers.
The base of the canvas is actually many layers. I started with a base of napkins in pinks and yellows. Followed by a white wash of paint. Then I used butterfly stencil to part of the base when the napkins where dry using white gesso. I then gave the whole canvas a mist with a few different glimmer mist colours. Then it was stamped with a script stamp and clear stamp using my hand as the stamp pad.
Then the edges of the canvas were inked and blended inwards. Lastly I added some butterflies randomly with Tuxedo Staz on and gave the whole canvas a coat of gloss spray.
I double stamped a large paper doily using two different coloured inks. Helped to create a background for the dancer.
I also mixed it up with lots of different flowers I had in my stash to the top left and bottom right corners. Also adding in some smaller doilies I had stamped.
The dancer I actually printed onto a scrap of paper and then adhere the coloured paper to the printout and re printed it again so I got the pattern on the patterned paper. I then hand cut it all out and layered it . Added some ribbon to the skirt and finished it off with flowers and kindy glitz. Super easy and didn't require any drawing of a dancer on my part.
Lastly I added in some flourishes to the floral clusters which I hand cut from some of the Pink Paislee - Cottage Farms paper range.
I must say I had a ball making such a mess. It was a bit of time labour intensive project however because it is such a busy time of year I was able to get little bit done and allow it to dry to do other things.

My girls are so happy to have some of my work hanging in their room.. my son has even asked for one..lol...Now to get my thinking cap on to work out what to make him.

Enjoy the Christmas season and stay safe.

Till next year.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 27

Hello again.

Back to share with you all some things I have create using Pink Paislee - Cottage Farms paper range on behalf of Mad About Scrappin.

Now this week like last week I have create some cards again as I really want to get a head start on my card stash for the next year. Plus the fact that scrap time has been cut in half with school holidays starting here in South Australia.

So here's two more cards I have created for you.
I have continued with the 4"x4" card idea from last week too.
Now I am one of those people who like to have non themed cards in my stash all the time. I find you never know when you might need a card for no special occasion and that I just don't seem to have them in my stash when I need them. So this time around I am making sure I have heaps.
That way you can use them for any occasion too!

For my first card I have played around with ink again. I have added a small doily from my stash that I have stamped and some old rubons from my stash. Then it was as simple as adding a ribbon, some hat pins and lots of yummy flowers from Mad About Scrappin to finish off the card. I even used the flower wire stems as embellishment too!

For the second card I have inked again. I have then raided my used kit stash and found a playing card and ticket stub that matched in nicely. Inked them up and clustered them up with some more flowers and a ribbon bow to match. Super easy and yet looks great.

So this week I have show you a different look you can get using the same paper range from last week.

Why not give it a try and see what different types of cards you can create using the same paper range.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 26

Hello all.

Back this week to share with you a little something I have created for you on behalf of
Mad About Scrappin.

This week however I have something a little different to share.

Being the that the silly season has started and we are all in the mad rush to the finish line for Xmas I thought I would create a few cards to start to stock up my card stash for the new year.

So with that in mind here is a few cards that I have create with the Pink Paislee - Cottage Farms paper range.
I quite like this paper range for making cards as the pattern on the paper wasn't too large for the card size I had in mind. Now. I love to make cards for family and friends. However the problem I always seem to run into is the size of the card and how I will fit it into an envelope once I have added all the dimensional embellishments I love to add to the card. Plus the fact of all the paper and card stock wastage I seem to get when I am making cards. So with that in mind I decided to create cards using once sheet of card stock as the base. So I decided to create 4"x4" cards. From one sheet of card stock I was able to create 4 cards with a small scrap of the card stock to used as needed. This size is also perfect to fit into a C6 size envelope and have it seal nicely once all the embellishments are added. Which is great when you have to post them as it only costs a standard stamp price.

For the first card I have inked all the patterned paper with a black ink to create a bit of drama to the lighter paper. I have also used a script stamp to stamp the base patterned paper. With some of the scrap card stock I have stamped the cupcake and then mounted it using 3D foam. Finished it all off with a little kindy glitz and the card was done.

For the second card I have once again inked all the edges. I then made a paper bow from the black patterned paper as an embellishment and stamped a larger cake on the scrap card stock as an embellishment. I then added some kindy glitz to the cake and a greeting with some mini alphas and the card was all done.

Do you like to have cards on hand like I do for all those special occasions ?

I find it a great way to use up some scraps too and stay organise. Because when you need the cards they are already done.

Thanks for stopping by.

Till next week.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 25

Hello all.

Back again this week to share with you a layout I have create for Mad About Scrappin once again.

This week however I set myself a little bit of a challenge with the Pink Paislee - Cottage Farms paper range that Leanne sent me. I decided that I would challenge myself to use just one sheet of the patterned paper and a piece of contrasting card stock. So I grabbed all the goodies below and set to work.

So here's the finished layout that I managed to create using what I had challenged myself to use.

Now... to begin with because I was only using one piece of patterned paper I decided to add a little to the card stock that I was using. So with a little help from some ink, a Kaisercraft stamp and some washi tape I was able to create a fun background that tied in nicely with the paper I had decided to use. Plus the fact that it was a quick way to add that little bit extra without a huge amount of effort.

Next while I was working with the patterned paper I decided to use both sides of the paper. Now some parts of the patterned paper didn't have any pattern on them. So to I decided to bring a little bit of pattern to the paper and used a few stamps with two different Stazon ink colours for a bit of contrast I then inked the edges of each piece the same as I had the card stock base. This effect helped the patterned paper to blend into the card stock nicely with just a little bit of aged pattern showing through.

Have you challenged yourself lately ??

Sometimes I find it fun to play around with old products in my stash and limit the products I use. I find I do actually use up what I have and keeps my scrapping interesting too.

Why not have a play and see what you come up with.

Till next week.

Season of Giving !!!!

Welcome to another month of fun here at Mad About Scrappin.

I am back to share with you all an exciting challenge that Leanne has running for
the month of December.

The best bit about it is that EVERYONE is a WINNER !!!

 Here's all the details....

So here's my take on this month sketch by Anne Patterson.
I have created the layout this month using some fun paper I purchased at on of Mad About Scrappin's Flog it Friday sale. I really didn't know how much I liked this paper range by Kaisercraft - The Looking Glass until I saw it in real life.
Must say the pictures on the sale really didn't do it justice... It is soooooo nice!

Now in regards to the sketch I have played around with it a little to suit what I wanted to do with this paper. especially as I just had to include a Bo Bunny Envelope in this layout. I am love with them and wished I had grabbed more at the last Flog it Friday Sale!

Now.. for my base card stock I loved the colour but felt it need to be toned down a little as it was a little to bright with the older looking pattern I was using. So with a little help from a Kaisercraft stamp, some Tim Holtz ink and some chalk ink I was able to tie the card stock base in perfectly.

The best part about this paper range too is that the paper range has matching die cut stickers which work really well with being able to add a few accents to the page. I have used the butterflies but have folded the butterflies so that the centre of the wings stand up and the centre then adheres to the page. I was also able to use up a few more flowers from my mountain high stash of flowers!

So.. with such a fun sketch to play with this month AND a great chance to get a little something for just playing around with the sketch why not play along.

Cant wait to see what everyone creates.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 24

Back again to share with you the last layout for this month I have created for Mad About Scrappin.

I have used up the last of my Teresa Collins - Memorabilia stash to create this layout to share with you this week.
I have played around with using a piece of the Memorabilia paper range as the main background for my layout this week. I am not usually one to use a whole sheet of double sided patterned paper as the base of my layout. However this week I decided that I would do so as I had saved this background paper whole to use for a base when I first saw it. It was just too nice to cut up. So this week I decided to go with a school theme for my layout as I feel this paper range works really well with that theme.

To continue with the school theme I have randomly stamped the base patterned paper with a Kaisercraft numerical clear stamp. I used my hand to stamp rather that a stamp block because I didn't want the whole  pattern. I just wanted to give the base paper a more textured feel. I then used my trusted favourite washi tapes to give the paper a bit of a border to break it up a little.

By layering the die cuts that match the Memorabilia paper range with some washi tape and masking tape I have been able to create my own matching embellishments. I love that the die cuts are double sided and that you are able to chose if you want to use the coloured or black and white side. Makes the die cuts quite versatile.

Now.. as I had said above I have used some making tape on this layout as part of my embellishments. Well.. it order to tie it all in I have used the Kaisercraft numerical stamp again to alter the masking tape. The masking tape on its own just didn't fit I felt. Plus the added bonus is that the masking tape adds to the school feel.

Have you used something on your layout that was a little different ?

Why not play around and see what you come up with.

Till next week.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 23

Hello all.

Back this week to share with you a quick layout I have created using the Memorabilia paper range by Teresa Collins available at Mad About Scrappin.

Still love the versatility of this paper range. Love how it can be used for any subject matter.

And I must say that I quite love the colours in this paper range too.

So here's the layout that I have created this week.
This time around I have used a piece of smooth black card stock that I have had laying around in my stash for a while. I usually use this type of card stock mainly for matting my photos. However this time around I have found it has worked well for what I wanted to do with the base on my card stock. By also adding a border of some matching washi tape I have been able to create a different feel to finish off the edges of the layout without any huge effort involved.

For my base design on the black card stock I have used a stencil by WOW I purchased from a Mad About Scrappin Flog it Friday sale. Rather than using it with mists of texture paste however I have used it with and ink pad. To be able to get the ink onto the card stock I have used a disposable cotton makeup pad to rub ink onto the card stock over the stencil. I was able to control the amount I was putting on the card stock quite easily this way. I was also able to fade it in and out of the stencil as I desired. Then lastly to add a little more dimension I have then stamped the stencil using a script stamp randomly. I am quite happy with this effect.

I love being able to layer things I want on the layout too. for this layout I have used a really yummy envelope by Bo Bunny available to Mad About Scrappin. Then I have stamped a piece of the lighter Memorabilia paper with the same script stamp I used on the base card stock. This helped to tie it all together as I found the paper was a little too pale for this layout without it. I even managed to squeeze a piece of felt border punched floral ribbon into this layout that I have had laying around in my to use up stash for ages.

Why not play around with your stash too. I love being able to use old products up with new items I have purchased.

Till next week.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 22

Hello all.

Back again to share with you another fun layout I have created this week on behalf of
Mad About Scrappin.

Once again I have been playing with the Teresa Collins - Memorabilia paper range.

I love the colour scheme of this paper range and it is just so versatile too.

So here's this weeks layout for you.

Yes.. I know another super quick and easy layout.
I even managed to start some Christmas photo scrapping from a few years ago when Tarryn was only very little. The colours in the photo worked really well with the papers and the splash of red in the photo I felt added a little bit of a feature to the layout.

Super easy too to add that little bit extra to a layout using some of the coordinated tags and some natural coloured twine. Keeps it nice and clean. I haven't added a title to this page as such. Preferring to use the words on the tags to tell my story so to speak. Didn't really think that the layout needed a title with those there already.

By using some paper scraps to create some buntings I have been able to use up some of the little pieces I had laying around and they have made a quick and easy way to embellish the page.

Sometimes it is just about keeping it simple, not using too many embellishments and making the paper do all the work on the layout.

Especially when you have such great paper like this one.

Well back to the scrapping grind stone while my mojo is working overtime.

Till next week.

Challenging the sketch!

Welcome to another Mad About Scrappin monthly challenge
using a sketch by the amazing
Anne Patterson.
I love using sketches sometimes when I seem to be stuck in a rut when scrapping. they give me a point to start from and I can usually go from there.

Using this sketch was no exception. I loved being able to us little bits and pieces of paper from the Teresa Collins - Memorabilia paper range. I love the colours and just happened to have some perfect photos for the papers too.

However.. I did start with the sketch the way it was suppose to be.. believe me I did.. Then I kind went off on my own little track. I wanted to personalise the sketch a little to what I wanted to I played around with placement of the pieces of patterned paper to showcase the stamps I had used on the base of the cardstock.

Remember too that the embellishment clusters can be anything you like. Just because it shows stars on the sketch doesn't mean that it has to be stars. It just gives you an idea for placement. I have clustered together some flowers over a cute little manila envelope I inked and stamped to add a little bit of feature to the layout. I love the binding as a crinkled ribbon bow too. I adds that little bit of extra to the floral cluster.

Remember to that the patterned paper doesn't have to stay the way it is. I tied the stamps I used on the base cardstock together with the patterned paper by stamping onto one of the patterned papers prior to cutting my squares. I like the look of not quite having the whole butterfly on the square along with the boldness of the dark stamp on the lighter paper.

Why not have a play around with this sketch yourself and see where it takes you.

Try playing around with it a little to suit what you want.

Remember its all about having fun !

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 21

Good morning everyone.

So starts another month. I cannot believe that it is already November !!! Where has this year gone ???

Okay.. So I am back to share with you this week a layout I have created for Mad About Scrappin.

I have been lucky too to be able to show you a new paper range this month too. This month I am playing around with Teresa Collin's - Memorabilia. I must say that it has been heaps of fun to play with.

So here's the first layout for the month using this yummy paper range.
Have kept it simple with the colours on this layout and have just used the white and black patterned papers primarily. I have then add a small dash of colour with adding in the tan coloured print. I wanted the paper range to work with the sepia photo that I already had printed of my son and found that this worked really well.

To mix it up a little I have added a few stamps by Kaisercraft directly onto my base card stock. I have stamped them using a metallic ink which has provided just a little bit of shimmer to the card stock I have used. The card stock is a flat Matt finish so I felt it needed a little something.

By using a few paper doilies and some old metallic embellishments from my stash I have been able to add some simple embellishments to the layout without them being too over powering. The metal embellishments have just a hint of blue in them and the same tan of the patterned paper so they tied in nicely. Added just a small amount of colour to keep the masculine feel. Plus once again I added in a dash of some washi tape to tie it all together.

I have had so much fun playing around with this paper range that I have already started working on the remaining layouts for the month.

Off to chase the kids off to school.

Have a great day.

Mad About Scrappin - Layout of the Week - Week 20

Welcome back to another week of fun on behalf of Mad About Scrappin.

Okay.. so I know that today I am suppose to be sharing with you a new layout I have created as the title of the post suggests.

However just to throw you a curve ball I thought I would mix it up this week as I had a few cards to make for birthdays AND wanted to show you how I have used up the last of the scraps of the Echo Park Co. Paper range I have been using this past month.

So... with that in mind.. here is three very different cards I have created using up the last of the paper range A Perfect Summer range.

Here I have created a card for my son's 10th birthday on the 24th October. Have thrown in a few scraps of old packs like the hessian and a handcrafted polymer button.

Next I created a card for my niece's 14th birthday on the 28th October. Another polymer button used for centre of the hand cut flower and some stitching with a journal marker to finish it off.

Lastly was a card created for my daughter's 16th birthday on the 27th October. I have hand stamped randomly the base card and the scraps of paper too to grunge it up a little. A little bit of weaving of the paper scraps. Then throw some flowers in the mix to add that little bit of a feminine touch.

Super quick cards using up the scraps I just couldn't part with.

Well.. off to prepare for all the parties now.

Till next week.
